ISO - June 2008 e- Newsletter
Now that finals are over, international students are having more free time than
during the school year. This is the best moment of the year to have fun and relax,
and more than likely, you will also need to de-stress after all the studying and
hard work of last semester. The flowers are now blooming, and the weather is beautiful,
but more importantly, your body needs a break to rejuvenate itself. Give your body
the necessary rest, so you are refreshed at the beginning of next semester.
Regardless of which state you currently live in, there are always many fun opportunities
that you can enjoy. The best and usually most economical way to have fun is in a
group. Group activities allow you to maintain, and even strengthen the relationships
that you have with your friends. Furthermore, someone in the group might even suggest
additional activities for you all to participate in. Here are some activities that
you might enjoy this summer:
HAVE A BARBEQUE
what better way to enjoy the summer than cooking, eating, and socializing with friends!
This is the perfect opportunity for you to catch up with friends you have not seen
in a while, or make new ones. If you split the cost of the food and utensils among
the people attending, or if everyone decides to bring something to share, you can
all have a lot of fun at a very little cost per person.
VISIT THE BEACH
there are endless possibilities of things you can do at the beach. Volleyball, water-sports,
swimming, sun-bathing, or simply reading a book are just few such activities. There
are great beaches and lakes throughout America, and you might also want to check
out National Geographic’s list of the best beaches in America by clicking here.
GO ON A TRIP
take a trip to a place you’ve never been to before and experience a different culture.
There are countless places in America that international students can explore to
learn more about America and witness its incredible diversity. You can travel in
a group to minimize the cost of transportation and also to share new experiences
with your friends. If you need to rent a car, please take advantage of the car rental
discounts offered by ISO. You may access more information by clicking here. In addition to the information on our website, you can
also receive a discount from Budget Car Rental,
www.budget.com, by using offer code: S166741.
DO VOLUNTEER WORK
another way to have fun during the summer is to do some volunteer work. Many organizations
are looking for summer volunteers to assist them, and you can gain valuable experience
this way. Volunteer opportunities range from being a summer camp volunteer, to even
doing research with a company. Although you will most probably not get paid, the
contacts you make there might prove invaluable to you later in your professional
career. Besides, there are various perks that volunteers enjoy, that may not be
available otherwise.
LEARN TO PLAY A MUSICAL INSTRUMENT
there are so many benefits to playing a musical instrument. It is both fun and entertaining,
but it can also be a form of relaxation. You can challenge yourself by self-teaching,
or you may prefer to take a class and learn with a group of people. Either way,
you can expect to have a lot of fun and expand your musical horizons. Musical instruments
can be bought online, or from a music or electronic store, and you can also find
used instruments at significantly reduced prices on Ebay and Amazon.
FINAL THOUGHTS
If going on a group trip, ask about special group rates. You can save money this
way and might even get preferential treatment. Make sure you let someone know where
you are going to and be alert of your surroundings at all times. Finally, if you
are traveling to another state, don’t forget to carry proper identification with
you at all times. This will save you a lot of inconvenience and ensure that your
plans flow as smoothly as possible.
We wish you all the best and hope you have lots of fun during this vacation.
