ISO – May 2011 e-Newsletter
You’ve just wrapped up your spring semester (on a positive note, we hope), and are
looking forward to making the most of this well-deserved summer break. So now what?
Feel free to retire that gigantic Bio Chem textbook into some dark corner of your
closet, where you won’t have to set your eyes on it. With all the stress-inducing
matters out of the way, you’ll be able to concentrate on simply having some fun
in the sun. But wait, you’re not in the clear just yet—the ideal weather that you
see around you may not be the greatest news for your allergies, and that happy-looking
sun might not actually have the best intentions toward you.
If you plan on truly enjoying your summer, ISO has some tips on how you can avoid
falling prey to your allergies as well as a bad case of sunburn:
- Take your allergy medication a week or two before allergy season starts. It’s called
preparation and it goes a long way.
- Avoid allergy triggers- limit your exposure to the allergens responsible for your
suffering. Don’t schedule outdoor activities during times of high pollen count (May
and June for grasses, September and October for ragweed).
- Wear sunglasses to help keep pollen out of the eyes. Also, close doors and windows
during pollen seasons.
- Broad-spectrum sun blocks, whether lotion or spray, are your best friends when it
comes to battling the harmful rays of the sun. A good sun block should serve as
the first line of defense on your next trip to the beach.
- Try and avoid prolonged outdoor activity within the time frame of 10A.M.- 2P.M.
because that is when the sun’s rays are at their most intense. And don’t think you
are safe behind that glass (unless it is has UV tinting).
Remember, prevention is the best medicine.
On a side note: We encourage you to keep your ISO health insurance in effect this
summer. Don’t forget to remind your friends to renew their international student
health insurance plan. If they don’t currently have one, encourage them to check
out ISO health insurance!
This information is brought to you by ISO insurance division, the sole provider
of ISO health insurance plans and the leading international student insurance provider.
Due to the high cost of medical services in the USA, we encourage you to always
keep your international student health insurance up to date!
