What is an I-94 and How Can You Get It?

As an international student in the U.S., you're likely familiar with essential immigration documents, like the I-20 and I-94. The I-20 is a physical document that must be carried when traveling internationally, while the I-94, updated digitally since 2013, records your arrival and departure information with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP).
What is I-94?
The I-94 is an Arrival-Departure Record created for non-U.S. citizens and non-permanent residents by CBP to monitor all entries and exits. While you may not have seen a physical I-94 card, you can easily access the I-94 documents online when needed for applications like OPT, STEM OPT, H-1B, or even a green card.
To access your record, visit the I-94 Website – Travel Records for U.S. Visitors, click on “Get most recent I-94,” and fill in your personal information to download or print a PDF copy.
After filling out personal information, you will find your I-94 and can print or download it as a PDF.
Pay special attention to the “Admit Until Date: D/S” notation, which stands for “Duration of Status.” For F and J visa holders, this means you may stay in the U.S. as long as you maintain your status and keep required documents like the I-20 or DS-2019 up to date.
Staying up to date with visa documents is essential, but so is securing health insurance. ISO offers health insurance plans tailored for F-1 international students, J visa holders, OPT, and other categories to meet school and visa requirements.
