Frequently Asked Questions for Florida International University

Yes! ISO offers health insurance plans that meet FIU's requirements for international students and are pre-approved by FIU. Many students on F-1 and J-1 visas have successfully used ISO plans to waive the university insurance plan.

Yes! In the very unlikely event your waiver is denied due to plan benefits, we’ll work with you to try and get it approved. If we can’t help resolve it, you’ll get a full refund—just make sure to reach out within 30 days of your plan’s start date.

ISO works directly with FIU’s insurance team and reports your enrollment on your behalf. That means you don’t need to submit any insurance documents yourself. Once you purchase your ISO plan, you’re all set!

With ISO insurance, you can access in-network providers through the Aetna PPO network. Local facilities include Jackson Memorial Hospital and Baptist Health South Florida.

It’s recommended to purchase your ISO plan at least 2–3 weeks before classes begin. This gives you enough time to receive your documents, complete the waiver, and access care upon arrival.
