Yes, your university requires international students to maintain active health insurance coverage. University staff will enroll you in this school sponsored plan or you can enroll in an alternative plan with an approved waiver from ISO.
You may be eligible for a waiver, if you fall into any of the categories below:
• Covered as a dependent under a parent/spouse’s US based employer plan
• Covered through their home country embassy’s insurance (e.g. SACM)

When visiting a doctor, all you need to do is show your ISO insurance ID card to the provider to initiate the claims process. The provider will typically be able to submit a claim on your behalf without charging you in full at the time of visit, meaning you don’t need to submit a claim for reimbursement. Claims will generally take 2-3 weeks to process and you can keep up with claims status at any time through an online claims portal.
